His Substitute Wife... My Sister by Sylvia Hubbard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
His Substitute Wife... My Sister by Slyvia Hubbard is a 2014 HubBooks Literary Service Publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
A hateful mother and father with no backbone have three little girls. Cheyenne and Chyna are twins and later Charisse comes along. These girls suffered untold horrors as children. As adults these women have not faired well. Chyna married Parker for his money, and Cheyenne tried to steal him away from her. Now Chyna is desperate to hold on to Parker and she believes having a child with him will cure all their ills. The problem is she is having a great deal of trouble conceiving and finally the doctors determine she unable to have children. Cheyenne also suffers from the same problem, but baby sister Charisse could come in handy. Charisse is staying with Chyna after her third failed suicide attempt. She has a plethora of problems, one of which is she can't stand being touched. When Chyna approaches her about having a child for her Charisse finally agrees, but only after Chyna manipulates her into it. Parker is not sure what to think, but with the only alternative left being adoption, he is willing to try anything.
Meanwhile Chyna moves Parker and Charisse around like pieces on a chess board. She claims that Cheyenne is after Parker and a hunk of money that actually belongs to Charisse. Parker is completely in the dark about the whole scheme. However, he is fighting off an attraction to Charisse as he spends more time with the woman that will bear his child.
WARNING: Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!!! One bombshell after another is dropped and the unbelievable selfishness and greed these women had on top of a really bizarre sibling rivalary will put Parker and Charisse in the middle of a diabolical plan. While Cheyenne is sort of in the background she is the basis for all of Chyna's motives to keep Parker, even though she doesn't care about him, and to con Charisse into doing almost anything she ask of her... and I mean ANYTHING.
While Cheyenne and Chyna battle it out, Parker and Charisse begin to grow closer and closer until finally Chyna seems to realize she has lost the battle, and probably the war. But, the action only heats up after that. Cheyenne and Chyna aren't done yet, and several other people get involved in the whole mess, some of which were just as manipulated as Parker and Charisse.
The secondary characters include Parker's outspoken best friend and his wife, and the nurses hired to keep an eye on the suicidal Charisse. An epic battle will ensue over the child Charisse is carrying and the money she is owed, but also for just being the twins younger sister. The last fifty pages or so were incredibly tense. Thankfully, Charisse will find a new will to live and Parker will finally find a woman that loves him and not his money. As for the rest of this crew I hope the all get what they deserve.
From what I understand this is a part of a series, but I have not read the other book or books. There is a web page that will help you catch up with the characters and is an interactive way to be involved with the story.
This is one wild ride! Once you start reading it you won't be able to put it down. My only problem with the story was that there were a few scenarios I found implausible, but other than that, if you like edgy, emotional, contemporary romance with tons of drama and twist and turns in the plot you might want to check this one out. Over all this one is an A.
