Hey, Have You Tried Eating at Falafel Yo!?

By Clari @clarisaysblog
I know, I know. "What is falafel?" I did ask that, too and I'm happy to report what I learned during a recent foodie meetup.

Falafel is a deep-fried chickpea ball with coriander, garlic, parsley and other Mediterranean spices. It is a staple dish of the Middle East which originated in Alexandria, a Mediterranean port city in Egypt sometime after 300 BCE. Because of its inexpensive and rich source of protein, this warm and crunchy dish made its way all over the Middle East. Today, falafel is one of the most iconic Middle Eastern street food.

Wanna give it a try? There's this Israeli Falafel & Salad Bar called Falafel Yo! managed by Yuval Mann, Nofar Mann and Guy Mann. They currently have two branches - Greenbelt 3, Makati City which opened in June 2017 and The Annex, SM City North EDSA which opened in April 2018.

Falafel Yo! serves authentic, delicious, and healthy Israeli falafels. In fact, their falafels have chock-full of nutrients such as fibre, protein and folate making it the perfect option for vegetarians and basically, any health-conscious person.

See how their falafels are prepared. Also, please subscribe!

Falafel Yo! currently offers the following:

FALAFELITO is the smaller version of their FALAFEL YO which is perfect for kids or people looking for a quick snack. It contains three falafel balls, hummus, salads, onions, chilli, fries and special sauces stuffed in small pita bread. (Php 109)

FALAFEL YO is the big brother of Falafelito which has more fillings stuffed in big pita bread. (Php 179)

If you love spicy food, you'll love the flavours of the sauces in their OUCHY OUCHY falafel sandwich. (Php 199)

As mentioned earlier, I didn't know what a falafel is. After learning about it and sampling their offerings, I can honestly say that I enjoyed all the flavours. My favourite would be the Falafel Yo because it's a complete meal. You see, there are times when I don't eat rice so this one is not only perfect but also a healthier option. The Ouchy Ouchy, on the other hand, I really could not handle. Don't get me wrong. It is flavourful and very delicious but it's too spicy for me.

Besides these three, Falafel Yo! also offers Jewish Egg (Php 39) and Pita Fries (Php 89) which come in Sour Cream, Za'atar, and Cheese flavours. I love the egg as well as the Sour Cream, and Za'atar flavoured Pita fries. Just a heads up, make sure to eat this right away. Trust me! You'll enjoy it more.

Since my visit here is through an invite, the question is will I come back and become their customer? 100% yes! I was able to take home a falafel and shared it with my uncle. Take note, he's not vegetarian. He loves beef and pork so much but he enjoyed the FALAFEL YO. So I will definitely be back and bring my family and/or friends along.

This Falafel Yo! branch is located on the second floor of The Annex, SM City North EDSA, Bago Bantay, Quezon City.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Happy eating!
