Heroes by @stephenfry

By Pamelascott

Few mere mortals have ever embarked on such bold and heart-stirring adventures, overcome myriad monstrous perils, or outwitted scheming vengeful gods, quite as stylishly and triumphantly as Greek heroes.
In this companion to his bestselling Mythos, Stephen Fry brilliantly retells these dramatic, funny, tragic and timeless tales. Join Jason aboard the Argo as he quests for the Golden Fleece. See Atalanta - who was raised by bears - outrun any man before being tricked with golden apples. Witness wily Oedipus solves the riddle of the Sphinx and discover how Bellerophon captures the winged horse Pegasus to help him slay the monster Chimera.

Filled with white-knuckle chases and battles, impossible puzzles and riddles, acts of base cowardice and real bravery, not to mention murders and selfless sacrifices, Heroes is the story of what we mortals are truly capable of - at our worst and our very best.

I absolutely adore Greek Mythology and Fry's last book, Mythos was fricking amazing so I absolutely had to get myself a copy of this. I loved this even more than Mythos if that's possible. Many of the tales are familiar to a Greek freak like me but I enjoyed Fry's version of the stories. I loved his narration as well, he's so British and matter-of-fact like he's reading from a newspaper. There's something I really enjoyed about this. The stand out tales in Heroes is Jason and the Argonauts and the Trails of Herakles (Hercules). The epilogue mentions something about a third book about the Trojan War that was performed in a theatre so I hope this comes out in Audio at some point.
