Story: Hero Mode starts as teenage computer genius Troy Mayfield (Carpenter) has been struggling to care about school. When his family’s creative business is facing a crisis, his mom Kate (Sorvino) brings him in to help complete their upcoming release.

This sees Troy taking over the office, and removing the other employees. However, this comes at a price, as he finds himself working alone on the project, instead of accepting help along the way.

Verdict on Hero Mode

Hero Mode is a family comedy following a small computer game company that races against time to make their latest game for a computer game con. However, a bigger firm is looking to do everything to shut them down and stop them from achieving this.

This does give us a great feeling about teamwork and young genius needing to learn how to work with a team. It has elements that show how important working together can be. Even if certain decisions show naïve problems. Once this movie gets going it is a lot more enjoyable and ends up feeling like an indie vision of ‘Free Guy’.

The supporting cast is the stars of the show, with Sean Astin being the character you want to watch the most. The rest get the laughs, even if the lead character is designed to be a lot plainer.
