What is Punctate Inner Choroidopathy?

Punctate inner choroidopathy is an idiopathic inflammatory chorioretinopathy, a condition that mainly affects the young females mainly 16 to 40 years of age that are myopic but are relatively rare. Lesions develop on the posterior pole and arise in the layer- retinal pigment epithelium.

What is the Main Cause of Punctate Inner Choroidopathy?

The main cause of punctate inner choroidopathy is unknown. Many theories have stated that it is an infectious thrombosis of the choriocapillary layer by an unidentified organism. It also involves genetic and environmental factors.

What are the Symptoms of Punctate Inner Choroidopathy?

The symptoms may vary from person to person.

  1. Blurring of vision
  2. Photopsia (flashing lights)
  3. Photophobia (sensitivity to light)
  4. A blind spot appears (scotomata)
  5. Loss of peripheral vision
  6. Distorted vision
  7. Inflammation in the posterior part of the eye
  8. Lesions appear at the level of the inner choroid or at the back of the eye
  9. These lesions are present bilaterally in more than half of the patients but most of the times these are asymmetrical.
  10. The area appears grayish white or there is a yellow punctate area.

Differential Diagnosis

This is very important to differentiate the multi-focal choroiditispanuveitis from punctate inner choroidopathy. Multifocal choroiditis requires immunomodulation. The main difference is the presence of vitritis and iritis in patients who are suffering from multifocal choroiditis.

Treatment

Modern medicine generally recommends corticosteroids (given local in the form of injections) to reduce the inflammation. Oral corticosteroids may also be given to improve the vision. But this is not the permanent solution and has various side effects. The condition may be reversed or there may be the chances of its recurrence.

These capsules are prepared from the compounds of calcium i.e., praval pishti (coral calcium), agate calcium (akik pishti), jaharmohra pishti, Mukta pishti (pearl calcium), kamdudha ras and satva of the giloy herb. Dosage: 1 or 2 capsules twice daily with plain water after the intake of food.

3. Angel Eye Vitale

Angel eye Vitale is a wonderful herbal formulation that gives better results in eye-related problems. Dosage: 1 or 2 capsules twice daily with plain water after the intake of food.

5. Punarnava Capsules

Punarnava capsules are prepared from the standardized extract of punarnava. This herb promotes healthy vision and provides strength to eyes. These capsules are helpful in reducing the inflammation, burning sensation in the eyes, headache, eye strain, and dryness. It also promotes normal visual health by protecting the eyes against oxidative stress. As compared to the vitamin C supplements these capsules are helpful in improving eyes health. Vitamin C also acts as  best anti-aging substance.
