It has been just over two weeks since Miley started her 10 Week Turnaround with Hill's® Science Diet® Perfect Weight and things have been going very smoothly. In our first post we shared her story, plan and goals for her weight loss journey. Today we are going to share how we transitioned Miley onto her new food and the tools we are using to help us stay on track.
Miley is LOVING her new Hill's Science Diet, Perfect Weight adult food. We are feeding her half a portion in the morning and the other half early evening which seems to be working out really well.
This is her "This is my food and I'm not sharing with nobody" face...
Transitioning was really quite simple, we just followed the Hill's Pet Transition Chart for the first 7 days.
You want to make sure you transition the food gradually to avoid digestive upset and tummy troubles. Miley has always done well with new foods so it was no surprise there were no problems.
Tip: One thing we learned when speaking with Miley's Vet about her weight was using a measuring CUP, not a SCOOP, that's a big NO-NO as it's not an accurate measurement. We were actually giving Miley a lot more food than we thought!
Another tool that we have been using is the Hill's 10 Week Turnaround Calendar. I am a stickler for schedules and being organized so I am thrilled to have this calendar. It has been so helpful in guiding us by keeping track of her progress and helping us stay accountable! You can download and print out your own calendar here.
The first week of transitioning is laid right out for you so you know exactly what you are doing each day, as well as a weekly weight tracker to keep track of her weight loss! We will also be noting on this calendar any changes in her appearance, her energy levels and what types of activities she is doing to stay active. I can't wait to look back at her journey and see all the progress she has made.
Finally, here is a useful tool from Hill's Pet to help determine your pet's shape. According to this chart, Miley falls under the yellow/Overweight category, since we can just barely make out her waistline.
Food for Thought:
Did you know that five extra pounds on a small dog is over 30 extra pounds on a human?!!!
Hill's Nutritional Consultants will be visiting PetSmart and Petco locations across the country to share information about Science Diet Perfect Weight and the 10 Week Turnaround and they will be handing out calendars in the stores as well.
If you have a pet that is overweight or feel they could lose a few pounds, we encourage you to take this 10 Week Turnaround journey with us!
