Help for Parents Who Want a Romantic Retreat at Home

Chances are if you are a parent that there is not a lot of romance happening in your home. If you are like most married couples with children, you likely even wake up with a kid or two in bed with you each morning. Finding the time to connect as a couple and be romantic can be difficult and overwhelming. One thing that parents can do to help make sure that they keep the spark alive is create a romantic retreat in their own bedroom. Of course this might require moving the kids back to their own beds from time to time.

Have a Bed You Love to Sleep In

One of the things that you are going to need to keep the romance alive as parents is a bed that you love to sleep in. If you do not have the right mattress or you are not comfortable in your bed, then you are going to be more likely to camp out on the couch when the kids are in bed with you. You will also be more likely to move to another room in the house instead of getting cozy in your bed with your spouse.

Make Sure to Have the Right Lighting

Rooms that are too dark will likely make you fall asleep too fast if you are a busy mom or dad. Rooms that are too bright will make you feel like all eyes are on you. If you want the most romantic environment as a couple then you should make sure that your lighting reflects that. Dimmer switches on lights, lights that use a 3-way bulb, or candle light are all ways to feel more romantic in your bedroom.

Choose Romantic Decor

The décor that you pick up should also reflect your desire to be romantic. Look for art, rugs, furniture, and accent pieces that reflect your desire for romance. Remember to stay away from bold and bright colors. Think about hotel rooms that are romantic and the romantic rooms that you see in the movies. Try to create a space that is reflective of these things.

Keep Clutter Away

No one can easily be in the mood for romance when they are thinking about all of the chores and work that needs to be done. Keeping clutter out of the bedroom and things put away will help you to have stronger romantic desires and be ready for more romance when you are in your bedroom. Also keep things like toys and books for children out of your bedroom. If your children like to play or read in your room make sure that they put their things away when they are done.

Hang the Right Pictures

Another thing to think about are the pictures that you hang up in your room. Your room should be your sacred space so instead of hanging up pictures of the whole family or your children like you have throughout your home, keep it to pictures of the two of you in the bedroom. No one wants to try for a little romance while staring a family member in the eyes. It is also hard to be romantic when you are looking at pictures of your kids. Have a photo session done with just the two of you or display your engagement/wedding pictures in your room. This is going to really help reflect the romantic tone that you are looking for.

Keeping your bedroom romantic is a great way to make sure that you are still connecting with your spouse as a couple even after you have children. So many couples find this the point in their lives where they grow apart because they are too busy to connect with one another. If you must schedule your romance put it on the calendar and make it mandatory that you both be present.
