Hotel Hellsten. What can I say. I loved it.
My trip to the Baltic started with Stockholm, late at night. I checked in at Hellsten around 2 am. When you are tired and it’s late and you just want to rest and avoid thinking until the following day, you need to find yourself in a nice place. Well, Hellsten was not nice: it was flabbergasting.
I was given the room key and when I opened the door of my room I literally gasped.

It’s safe to say it was love at first sight. It was a bit of a pity to be staying in such an incredibly beautiful room on my own, but hey, I am not complaining.

My first day in Stockholm didn’t even begin yet, and I was already happy with it. This is the power of great hotels. Don’t ever underestimate it.
And so I dove into the most beautiful bed ever and fell asleep feeling like a happy princess.

Now, to the details.
Other than the impact of the extravagant furniture, which is definitely the protagonist of the hotel, there are some details that make Hotel Hellsten a special place, a place with a heart.
As Izabelle, the beautiful (of course!) PR Manager explained:
“Our rooms do not have mini-bars because of Per Hellsten’s (the Owner) vision to connect all our Guest’s in the bar and lobby.
Therefore we serve free coffee and tea in the lobby – to make this the “living room” of the hotel and for all our guests.
We also have 24 hour room service for anyone who wants to stay in their room.
Regarding safety boxes we have this service at the reception. If there is anything which our guests want to keep safe, they can leave it at the front desk. Then they get a receipt of their deposited items which they can collect at any time.”

In the lobby, you get free coffee and tea, you can borrow glasses to read, and a Lonely Planet guide of Stockholm (together with more touristic information) sits around for anyone who wants to read it. I felt like I was in a hostel. In a good way. And as a solo traveler, I loved it!

Should you be one of the Guests that wants to stay in their room, no problem – it was so silent and comfortable. I never wanted to leave my room. Except for breakfast. Breakfast was good, not overwhelming, but what I really liked was the breakfast room and the fact that they served walnuts! I am a fan of walnuts.

I was so lucky to have a tour of the Hotel Hellsten and see other rooms, and found that they are all different. Ah, I need to go back and sleep in each one of them! Which one would you pick? Check these out:

This room used to be a brothel. Really! “The Red Room” is now the setting of many movies and TV series in Sweden. So cool!

The Location.
This was my first visit to Stockholm so location was really important for me. I found Hotel Hellsten to be in the best possible position for a newcomer:
- a pleasant 20 mins walk to Gamla Stan, through the shopping districts and city center (that you want to see anyway!).
- in a central, yet very quiet and silent location.
- literally around the corner from the next metro station.
- surrounded by restaurants, pubs, supermarkets, cafes, etc.
- not in a “touristy area”.
- easy to find – just look for the Hellsten flag!

What more can you ask for? I honestly found the location perfect.
Last but not least: the price range.
I know what you are thinking – this must be so not affordable. Well that is far from truth, since you can have one of these amazing rooms for just 1.290 SEK (about 140 Eur) and up.
My advice? Go for it!
