Been here eight months and all that. Nine months ago, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to make some bona fide use of my HKID and move to one of my favorite cities in the world. And eight months ago yesterday, I arrived here! I wasn't going to post today - hello many weeks of not enough sleep finally catching up on this ex-night owl - but I felt it apt to crank up the A/C, make an iced coffee and share some thoughts as I do almost every month. I just really like commemorating dates like these, 'k?
I'd be lying if I said straight out that moving here was the best idea of my life. I mean, it was and is, but I often wonder if some things would be better if I'd stayed. My teeny baby cousin is growing up so quickly and he probably won't remember me when I move back. My best friend is getting married(!!) and I'm only able to share her dress shopping and planning via WhatsApp and Skype. I no longer have the bedroom that I lived in for eleven years.
But things change, quickly, every single day and nothing you or I do can stop that. Living abroad is truly rewarding, not only in learning new ways and finding out odd unknowns about yourself, but in gaining a new perspective of the everyday mundane. If you ever get the chance to move abroad and challenge yourself, do it. Even if you're terrified. I promise it's worth it. You can read my month-long pre-move posts right here!
Spending May and June with my visiting family helped me to take hold of just enjoying the tiny moments. I think that sounds super cheesy written down but it did. It does. My family are the happy, hippie-esque kinda clan who just laugh all the time, my Granny practices yoga thrice a day (aged 79!) and it honestly is all about the fun you have along the way.
Let's round this off on a happy note again, shall we? (Clearly the caffeine hasn't kicked in yet!) I'm so ready to seize the rest of the summer and enjoy it exploring, laying out on the beach, hitting junk trips and chowing down on good food. Please just pass me more A/C.
Kisses! XOXO
