Helen and Steve’s Fall Wedding in the Ladies’ Pavilion

Helen and Steve got married in early November in the Ladies’ Pavilion.  This is probably the best time of year to see both greenery and the start of the lovely Fall colors on the trees, and the temperatures are still not too low to get married outdoors comfortably.  Helen’s daughter and the couple’s two friends were their guests.

Helen and Steve had met briefly around 1991 through mutual friends but at the time they weren’t at all interested in each other.  They met up again in 2018 after a chat on the phone because Steve bumped into an old mutual friend from years ago by chance and he asked about Helen.  They started dating not long after that.  “We had our first proper date Saturday 24 March, it was the best date ever in my life and we laughed together all day long,” Helen told me.

The couple visited New York City together to celebrate Steve’s 50th birthday and they fell in love with the city.  “We had the most amazing day ever in Central Park so that was why we chose to marry there,” said Helen.

The original plan was to get married with a slightly bigger group, but by June, Helen and Steve had streamlined their guest list and booked their flights to arrive in New York in late October.  They kept their wedding plans a secret from everyone except Helen’s daughter Abbie, who would be coming with them to New York.  They stayed at the Ludlow Hotel.

Neither of Helen or Steve’s parents were able to travel overseas, and Steve’s two children would be at school, so they were only able to have a small group with them.  In the end, Steve arrived at the Ladies’ Pavilion first with two friends, and then Helen arrived later with her daughter who was her bridesmaid.

The fabulous Metro Look did Helen and Abbie’s hair and makeup.  Helen is a hairdresser herself so she had a clear idea of what she wanted.  We ordered a bouquet for Helen and for her daughter Abbie and also matching boutonnieres.  The florist used seasonal blooms of roses, ranunculus, and peonies, accented by textured wildflowers and eucalyptus.

After photos at the Ladies’ Pavilion, their photographer Jakub Redziniak took them around Cherry Hill, Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace for photos.  After that, he took them down to the Tavern on the Green, he took a few photos of them there and then left them to eat and celebrate with their party.

I asked Helen how we did.  “Everything was perfect and it exceeded my expectations a million times over,” she said.  “You were so helpful and I can’t thank you enough for making our dreams come true.  I’m so happy with how easy the day was, we couldn’t have done this without you,” she said.
