A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to try the new Kraft Pourables Salad Vinaigrettes.

What I thought of it

First of all, what a beautiful bottle…as someone who worked in a “brandesign” firm that specialized in product design from packaging to logo to interiors of retail stores, I have to appreciate it. As someone who loves playing with different salads, I love the flavor combinations, and as someone who loves experimenting, I love that they have suggested recipes on the side of the bottle!

Roasted vegetables are one of my favorite things to eat. I remember years ago, before we were married, the Luv Luv and I lived in a townhouse in Don Mills, Ontario. We had this fabulous open patio, so one of the first things we did was get a Barbecue and plant tomatoes. We ate so much grilled food during that period, I swear we were ultra-healthy. I would prep the meat and vegetables in my awesomely-huge-kitchen-that-all-future-kitchens-have-not-yet-lived-up-to, and just handed the bowl to the Luv Luv and went to relax while HE cooked dinner.

Ahhh…a man and his grill. Good times – and good food! I loved grilled food – grilled zucchini/courgette is possibly one of my favourites, closely followed by grilled eggplant and grilled peppers…

So when I saw Roasted Yellow Pepper and Roasted Tomato, you know those were the two that I headed for! That, and the fact that the Garlic-Parmesan has cheese in it so I could not have it (casein-allergy so dairy free) and the Berry Balsamic has berries in it (anaphylactic allergy to berries) so I couldn’t have that one either. I hear they are really good though…and anything with garlic or balsamic vinegar has to be good!

Kraft Pourables are what I’ll call a tasty health food option because it is made with real fruits & vegetables, have an amazingly fresh taste, are low in fat and salt and are only between 25-30 calories per serving. Warning, this does not mean that you can go towards eating salad with your dressing rather than dressing with your salad – after all, for a healthy diet, moderation is key!

Not just for salad!

Anyways, so we are pretty boring I guess, because we made the recipe on the side of the bottle…hey, what else is it for? In case you cannot read that it says to add 1/4 cup of dressing with equal amounts of Miracle Whip Original Spread, sour cream or yogurt.

Yes, I realize these all contain dairy, but there are dairy free products on the market that work just as well….and I have to tell you, in this case, they worked really well.

So the little Kraft Pourables Fire Roasted Tomato with Basil concoction was all mixed up and I had to look for vegetables…unfortunately my fridge was a little empty of extremely colourful veggies, but we had cauliflower and carrots on hand and we munched away at this healthy little snack while we watched our nightly TV shows. Man it was good.

You can also use them to season meats!

I’ve also used the Kraft Pourables Roasted Yellow Pepper with Garlic and Lime to marinate chicken for baking. It was a quick and easy recipe. We bought chicken thighs and drenched them in the dressing, added a little black pepper and a sprinkling of salt and left it to marinate for a few hours. We stuck it in the oven for just under an hour and served it with rice and a fresh salad. Yummy. Sorry, I didn’t take photos – it got eaten before I even thought of it!

I have a feeling they would be amazing with a spicy flank steak too, both as a seasoning and a dip as such….I must try that one…

Look out for the Kraft Pourables – I’m sure you’ll find them as enjoyable and useful as I do!

I have been compensated for this post , but regardless of compensation or not, the opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own, as are those in all the posts on Bewildered Bug.
