These days it seems that we try to manufacture health. We try to distill the foods we eat down to the essence, the key particles, to bottle up and take as a pill or put into the latest beverage. We add certain ingredients into our diets and ban other foods completely in that quest for the right combination to give us energy yet keep us thin.
Exercise is no longer playing in constant motion. We force ourselves into the gym to perform specific movements or onto the treadmill to run without going anywhere. The desired outcome is so much the focus that we forget that exercise can be enjoyable and not simply a means to an end.
I want to enjoy the whole foods of each season and get my exercise chasing my children. I may miss a nutrient here and there and have a bit too many sweets at times. I may not work each specific muscle group in my body the exact number of times that I should. But I will enjoy being in the moment and that needs to be a part of our quest for health too.
