The Colombo High Court yesterday ordered to acquit and release Sampath Thushara Abhayawikrama from the case over the alleged killing of former Provincial Council member Namal Gunawardena at Kollupitiya.
After considering the evidence that transpired during the trial, Colombo High Court Judge Mahen Weeraman delivered the verdict ruling that the prosecution was unable to prove the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt. The Attorney General had filed the case in 2017 under the charge of killing former Provincial Council member Namal Gunawardena along with unknown persons in the Kollupitiya area on October 11, 2004.
