Among the warbirds attending the 2018 Wing Over Wine Country airshow was this Hawker Sea Fury. “924” was built by Hawker-Siddeley Aircraft Ltd. at Langley, England and first flew in 1954, later delivered to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1958 for use as a Luftwaffe target tug until 1970. Frank Sanders of Sanders Aircraft purchased “924” in 1978, raced it in Reno and underwent a 2012 restoration that included the stock Bristol Centaurus engine with the distinctive five-bladed prop. Sixty of these two-seat conversion trainer variants allowed the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm to transition pilots into the high-performance single-seat FB.11 fighter-bomber.
