This country has seen a resurgence of hate and prejudice against minorities since the election of Donald Trump. That is just a fact. Why is it happening? It's because the white supremacists believe the country has elected one of their own -- and they think that gives them the right to more boldly express their hate. And many of them are doing just that.
The response from Republicans has been non-existent, and Trump has only made passing mention of it. Both either don't think hate is a problem, or just a minor problem that will magically disappear if ignored. Sadly, that is simply not true. Hate and discrimination has been a part of our history since the country was created, and ignoring it has never made it any better.
Fortunately, a significant majority of Americans don't have that attitude. About 63% of Americans say hate and prejudice have gotten worse since the election of Donald Trump. And a whopping 77% say it is a serious problem in this country. I think most Americans are decent people, and they would like to see hate and discrimination eliminated. That's unlikely in the near future though. As long as the Republicans control our government, the problem will continue to be ignored,
These numbers are from a new Quinnipiac University Poll -- done between March 2nd and 6th of a random national sample of 1,283 voters, with a margin of error of 2.7 points.
