All of us football fans are excited for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament to kick off next month… Ever the optimists, we still believe this will be the year that football finally comes home – with England talisman and captain Harry Kane leading the way with his goalscoring (and creating) exploits.
To celebrate the tournament and England’s forthcoming victory, the mysterious Harry and the Kanes have released the sublime ‘England We Are Dreaming’ via Alcopop! Records. The top-secret act are aiming for the no.9 slot to match Harry’s England shirt number and also have their eyes set firmly on 99,999 streams on Spotify. Every penny from the sale will be chucked into a charity pot and a bet placed on Harry being the Euro’s top scorer – with all winnings going to Football Beyond Borders. Now, we just hope Harry plays his part and smashes in nine goals over the course of the tournament – a couple of hat-tricks would help.
Opening with some commentary from a voice some of you will recognize (who might have written the song as well…), the song has a ethereal feel with uptempo and twinkling piano backing lines of sporting poetry: ‘England have been waiting patiently since 1966, can Southgate’s Three Lions deliver between the sticks?
