President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s birthday falls today, March 24. He was born after the country gained Independence in 1948, educated at Royal College, Colombo and graduated at the University of Colombo. He has gone down in the annals as the first President to have studied at a university in Sri Lanka.
The President who contested from the Biyagama electorate in 1977 and entered Parliament, has represented Parliament for 47 years continuously since then. President Wickremesinghe who set a record by holding the position of Prime Minister six times in the country, accepts challenges courageously. After the Aragalaya, when all the Party Leaders were reluctant to take over the Premiership of the country, he took charge of the country and fulfilled the people’s needs. The President reestablished the rule of law that had become ineffective in the country without changing any officials.
