So to keep me away from the Crunchies, the Kit Kats and the champagne truffles that are currently calling my name from the kitchen table, I thought I’d give you a little health and fitness update. More health than fitness if I’m honest as I haven’t exactly been as good at the gym side of things since my holiday but I am doing three sessions of hot yoga this week. *smug face* With 149 days, 4 hours and 13 minutes until my wedding (yes, I downloaded a countdown App) this is not the time to be eating cake for breakfast but the time to start new healthy habits. Did I mention I’ve lost 4 pounds??
Two weeks ago shit got real. I stepped on the scales, had a mild heart attack at the number and immediately re-aquinted myself with the healthy food aisle in Marks and Sparks. The first change I’ve made is joining Slimming World, which, if you can get past the fact that a slice of carrot cake is 40 syns, it’s is actually quite fun. I don’t really agree with the fact that you can eat pasta or potatoes all the time while on a Slimming World eating plan as I don’t actually eat a lot of those kinds of carbs usually but I do love the community aspect and the pressure of being weighed every week does make me think twice about reaching for that pizza. I’m going to write a post all about my Slimming World antics after I’ve tried it for a few weeks.
I don’t agree with drastic diets so I’ve started to make small changes such as making my own food more. Working from home allows me to resist popping to a shop for processed lunches and I’ve started making homemade soups. Make a giant batch and you will have two or three lunches out of it. I’ll be blogging a couple of my favorite soup recipes this week. I’ve included more protein in my diet over the last two weeks and only allowed myself one treat a week instead of one treat a day. Chicken, avocado and tomato are my staples.
I’ve updated my Instagram lots and found new people to follow who don’t eat cake. I find this really helps as not only does it give me lots of ideas for healthy meals (Deliciously Ella) but it also reminds me of my fitness goal (Lucy Meck, Michelle Keegan, Steph Pacca, Jen Selter). I’ve also bought lots of books. I love nothing more than reading about how other people fuel their bodies and so Cameron Diaz’s book was naturally the first book on my list shortly followed by Deliciously Ella.

It’s amazing how little things can make such a difference to your day. Newby Teas kindly sent me a range of different teas to try and I have to give them more than a little credit for keeping me on track. Drinking water all day can get a bit boring so I’ve mixed it up with a few herbal teas.
Hunan Green Tea (here)
I’d forgotten how much I loved lemon and ginger tea and their green tea is fairly phenomenal too. Each silken pyramid is filled with tea and encased in its very own wrapper. It feels way more decadent than sipping your average supermarket brand and it did help to have a cup of lemon and ginger tea when I’d usually be reaching for a family sized bar of chocolate.
I’ve been a lot healthier in the last two weeks and it’s paid off. Of course, I’m not going to give up my social life completely and there will be times when I give in to temptation but I will try to make healthier choices. Here’s my advice going forward:
Swap sugary cocktails for champagne…
Take up any hobby that gets you away from the fridge…
Stay away from feeders…
And serial drinkers…
