Hand Habits have shared the video for new single ‘What Lovers Do’ ahead of the release of new album ‘Placeholder’ (out 1 May on Saddle Creek) and an extensive tour. Opening in a genteel, swaying manner akin to early Sharon Van Etten, the song has Meg Duffy claiming ‘now I know what love is for’ and offering self-depreciating observations about their past: ‘See it from a distance but the distance seems too far’; ‘Asking you a question, now the question seems so dumb’.
Halfway through, Meg claims ‘now I know what lovers do’ over layered vocals and Sam Evian-meets-Elliott Smith guitar work and explains how they are ‘suddenly illuminated’ by their longing and how they’re glad the subject is ‘halfway with your hands into the fire of my desire’.
