This week Tesco have introduced a variety of new Halo Top flavours, from the likes of Birthday Cake, Oatmeal Cookie, and Red Velvet, as well as a trio of Dairy Free varieties: Toasted Coconut, Sea Salted Caramel and this Peanut Butter Cup. I was super excited by this, since I've been trying to avoid dairy for a while now. How would it compare to the likes of Perfect World or Booja Booja vegan ice creams?

Halo Top Dairy Free Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

Described as "Peanut butter cup ice cream with sugar and sweeteners", this costs £5 in Tesco or you can get two tubs for £7. The ice cream is suitable for vegans, as well as being gluten free and soy free, however it is made in a factory that processes wheat, milk, eggs and nuts. I must admit I did chuckle at the lid! By the time I got the tub home it was somewhat melted and soft, and the perfect temperature to eat. It had a nice peanutty aroma.

I scooped some into a bowl and took a bite...

It tasted pretty good! The ice cream is quite light in texture, moreso than regular dairy ice cream, and has a strong peanutty flavour. I could also taste hints of the rice and pea protein used in the ingredients, which isn't a bad thing necessarily - it's good to know it contains some protein. I have to say though I was confused as to where the "peanut butter cups" were...there weren't any! There were some pieces of peanut mixed in, but certainly no "cups" ala Reese's Cups.

All in all, this is a very tasty ice cream and it's an excellent dairy free alternative, much better than some other varieties on the market. It's not quite as excellent as Perfect World, but it's great to have such a strongly peanut flavoured variety, even if it doesn't contain the promised "cups".

Ingredients: coconut milk (coconut cream, water), prebiotic fibre, organic cane sugar, sweetener (erythritol), peanut butter 3% (roasted peanuts, sugar, peanut oil, salt), rice protein concentrate, emulsifier vegetable glycerin, pea protein isolate, natural flavour, organic stabiliser (carob bean gum, guar gum), high fat cocoa, sea salt, organic sunflower lecithin, organic sweetener (steviol glucosides (stevia)).
Nutrition Information per 100 ml: 3.3g Fat, 13g Carbohydrates, 3.7g Sugars, 4.3g Polyols, 3.9g Fibre, 2.5g Protein.
