Fable, Forza, Halo, and Gears of War were four games that drove Microsoft forward in the gaming space. Halo has led Microsoft’s gaming universe for years. Now, not so much.
While Gears of War released its 6th edition with moderate success, Halo Infinite’s live service launched by 343 was not up to the mark to begin with. Although it got better with time, the initial wobbliness of the game shows that Master Chief’s future isn’t on the top of Microsoft’s list of priorities at the moment.
After a superbly successful Xbox Showcase, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox Game Studios said in an interview with the guardian The Guardian, “I wouldn’t say Halo is of lesser importance, but we have over 20 studios now,” he added, “I’ll go back to the years where I had basically four games – Fable, Forza, Halo, Gears, the four horsemen of the apocalypse. We have a lot more games now.”

While Spencer hasn’t given up on the older franchises, the main focus now seems to be on Starfield. The game has made quite an impact in a short span of time. It is poised to become the biggest Xbox game in the future if not the face of the brand.
On the flip side, Fable has not had a game in 13 years after releasing the 3rd game of the trilogy in 2010. Word is Fable is about to return. Forza has had a very consistent past. No one seems to have any complaints about this franchise. Halo has had a bumpy ride in the last few years. Also, the series on Paramount plus is becoming the main medium for telling the stories of Master Chief.
Overall, we can say that Microsoft’s gaming universe is entering a new generation and Halo is not going to be its face.
