Last month we took part in Hacktoberfest across EMEA.

Hacktoberfest is an annual event run by Digital Ocean (this year partnered with DEV) which focuses on open source by encouraging people to participate and contribute to open source software.

As part of our company focus on nurturing and developing talent Hacktoberfest sits close to our hearts.  We can interact and shape the developer community for the better.

One project that caught our eye was from a 14 year old developer from Prague, the Nodes team were “generally amazed” by the work the young developer has created, the Nodes Tech Lead in Prague stating how impressed the development team were.

“Everyone was pretty amazed at what he has completed at such a young age!”

Filip Troníček spoke after the event about his project idea and how he started coding.

What gave me the idea to create Interclip?

Back in 8th grade (this January), I thought about creating something (I’ve just started learning PHP and wanted to create something useful with it). But I wanted to do something out of the ordinary; something, that would help me and hopefully, other people to live a lazier and easier life.

What even is… this Inter-thing?

In short, Interclip is a magical tool to help people share URLs the good way. Interclip’s website allows you to paste or type in a URL and get back a 5 digit code, which is assigned to that unique URL. Also when you have a file that you want to send to a friend or your phone to share a photo on Instagram, you can use the built-in file uploader to do so.

How does it work?

It is built with PHP and some client-side JavaScript. The back-end is actually pretty simple. When you hit enter and submit the URL, a unique code is generated. That code gets assigned to the URL in a database and with that also a timestamp of the link submission.

Coding and me

Why do I code? Cause I just love to!

There’s nothing more remarkable and wonderful than just sitting by my computer, sipping on a cup of tea and trying to make the world a better place. That’s what makes me so passionate about coding. And there could even be people that find my stuff useful. It just makes my free time a hundred times more enjoyable and productive.
