HABS: Successful Offensive and Defensive Touches

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73

This post will focus on the number of successful puck-possession plays each Montreal Canadiens player contributed during the 2013 regular season. Every successful puck-possession play has been included, regardless of zone.
Offensive and defensive touches are not dependant on the zone they occur in. Offensive indicates plays that occurred while the Montreal player had possession of the puck, while defensive-touches are classified as those plays that occurred in order to remove puck-possession from the opposition.
Only EVEN-STRENGTH events are included.
SUCCESSFUL OFFENSIVE-TOUCHES PER-MINUTE PLAYED
Successful offensive-touches include passes, dump-ins, dump-outs, and shots through to the net.
Among defensemen, PK Subban contributed the most successful offensive-touches per-minute played. Although his ice-time and sample size is comparatively small, Nathan Beaulieu contributed the second-most successful offensive-touches. Raphael Diaz had the third-most, while Francis Bouillon actually produced more successful offensive-touches than Andrei Markov.
Alexei Emelin contributed the least amount of successful o-touches per-minute played.
Among centres, Lars Eller had the most successful o-touches PMP. Tomas Plekanec produced the second-most, while David Desharnais had 1.041 successful o-touches; just slightly more than Jeff Halpern (1.038).
Among wingers, Max Pacioretty produced the most successful offensive-touches per-minute played. Gabriel Dumont contributed a much smaller sample size, but managed to produce the second-most o-touches. Sweden-bound Colby Armstrong produced the third-most, with Brandon Prust, Brendan Gallagher, and Micheal Ryder close behind.
Rene Bourque managed the fewest successful offensive-touches per-minute played.

SUCCESSFUL DEFENSIVE-TOUCHES PER-MINUTE PLAYED
Successful defensive-touches include; successful attempts to remove puck-possession from the opposition through a stick/body check, blocked shots, and blocked passes.
Among d-men, Josh Gorges produced the most successful defensive-touches per-minute of ice-time. Jarred Tinordi had a much smaller sample size, and contributed the second-most d-touches PMP. Markov had the third-most, while Davis Drewiske (SSS) had the fourth-most.
Subban and Bouillon produced the fewest successful defensive-touches per-minute of even-strength ice-time.
Among centres, Eller had the most successful d-touches, while Halpern had the second-most, and Plekanec the third-most. Ryan White produced the fewest defensive-touches per-minute played.
Among wingers, Michael Blunden had an incredibly small sample size. Of those wingers with substantial minutes-played, Pacioretty produced the most successful defensive-touches per-minute played. Prust, Gallagher, Armstong and Brian Gionta led the peloton, while Bourque produced the fewest successful defensive-touches per-minute of even-strength ice-time.
