Numbers from 4-3 opening-night loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs
This post will focus on each Montreal Canadiens player's ability to make successful plays while in possession of the puck. Events used in this calculation include; passes, dekes, shots, and dump-ins. A successful offensive-touch can be described as any successful attempted pass, deke, shot-on-net, or dump-in. Consequently, any failed attempt at either of these events would constitute an unsuccessful offensive-touch. Only even-strength events were used in this calculation.
Players with more unsuccessful offensive-touches give the puck away more often than players with more successful o-touches. By extension, those players with more successful o-touches create more offense.
HOW TO READ THE GRAPH
- The higher a player's bubble is, the more UNSUCCESSFUL offensive-touches they contributed per-minute of ice time.
- The further to the right a player's bubble is, the more SUCCESSFUL offensive-touches they contribute per-minute of ice-time.
- The bigger a player's bubble is, the more events they engaged in per-minute of ice-time.
A player whose bubble appears in the bottom-right of the graph contribute more successful and less unsuccessful o-touches than a player whose bubble appears in the top-left of the graph.

PK Subban contributed the most failed offensive-touches per-minute played in loss to Toronto; followed by Jarred Tinordi and Francis Bouillon. Diaz produced the fewest failed offensive-touches
Andrei Markov contributed the most successful o-touches, followed by Subban and Josh Gorges, while Bouillon contributed the fewest successful o-touches.
CENTRES
Lars Eller contributed the most failed offensive-touches per-minute played in loss to Toronto; followed by Thomas Plekanec. Desharnais produced the fewest failed offensive-touches

WINGERS
Travis Moen contributed the most failed offensive-touches per-minute played; followed by Brendan Gallagher, and Daniel Briere. Alex Galchenyuk produced the fewest failed offensive-touches
Despite his injury, Max Pacioretty contributed the most successful o-touches, followed by Brian Gionta, and Brandon Prust. Moen contributed the fewest successful o-touches.
It's important to note that these numbers only reflect these players play during this ONE GAME. As such, they are not meant to reflect their likely play over the course of the entire season.
