The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs meet today in Super Bowl LVIII.

Both teams won their respective playoff championship games to reach the biggest game on the sports calendar, which will be held this year at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where they will compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs want to become back-to-back champions for the first time in their history, while the 49ers return to the Super Bowl for the first time since the loss to the Chiefs in Miami in 2020.

When is the 2024 Super Bowl?

Super Bowl LVIII is being played today.

Due to the addition of a game to the NFL regular season, the Super Bowl has been moved from its usual slot on the first Sunday in February.

What time is it in Britain for the 2024 Super Bowl?

In Great Britain the kick-off will be at 11:30 PM. In the US, the match kicks off at 3:30 PM PST, which is a 6:30 PM kick-off on the East Coast.

Because the Super Bowl is being played in Las Vegas, the start is earlier than normal to reach a primetime viewing point on the East Coast.

For the first time in NFL history, the Super Bowl will take place in Las Vegas.

How do I watch Super Bowl 2024?

This year marks the start of an updated 11-year contract between the NFL and the four major broadcasters in the US, with the game alternating between the two.

CBS will be the host broadcaster in the US this year and the game will also be streamed on Paramount+. Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will be the likely commentary duo.

In the United Kingdom, Super Bowl LVIII will be broadcast free on ITV1 and online via ITVX. Sky Sports paid subscribers will also get coverage, while TalkSport will cover the game on radio.

Washington Commanders defensive end Efe Obada, speaking ahead of ITV's coverage of the Super Bowl, said: "I won't sleep on this. Chiefs and 49ers, this will be a shootout and a great showdown. Both teams are evenly distributed, have great athletes and are dominated by offense. It's a star-studded match. It's getting crazy.

"Until they get knocked out, I'm never going to bet against the Chiefs and I think they'll win. They've been there before, Mahomes is very composed and they're backed by a great team in Andy Reid and Travis Kelce. The script says they have to win it, but you never know.
