Grumman HU-16C Albatross “Hemisphere Dancer”@ Orlando, FL

September 2019

Perched outside the Margaritaville restaurant at Universal Citywalk is this Grumman HU-16D Albatross named Hemisphere Dancer. Hemisphere Dancer happens to be singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett’s personal seaplane. This aircraft has become an icon of Parrothead culture, being featured on clothing, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant menus, and the namesake of cocktails. It made numerous visits to general aviation fly-ins before being retired in 2003 at this current location. The Albatross was used by the United States Air Force (USAF), the U.S. Navy (USN) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), primarily as a search and rescue aircraft. Introduced in 1949, the deep-V hull cross-section and keel length of the Albatross allowed landing in open ocean situations to conduct rescue operations. Fuji X-E2s w/18-135mm.
