December 2018

It has been a year since my last Tomcat post on this blog, so I’m overdue.  The gallery arrangement at this museum makes it a challenge to isolate the aircraft, especially when as large as this one.  This tired D model is at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum in Hawaii, one of my regular stops when visiting the islands.  This is ‘Felix 102’ of the VF-31 Tomcatters, one of the last squadrons to operate the F-14 before its retirement in 2006. ‘Felix 102’ was supposed to perform the symbolic last flight only to have a last minute generator failure, allowing the backup plane to have the honor.  In 2008, Felix 102 moved to its final destination, traveling on the assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard.  Fuji X-E2s w/18-135mm.
