Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will be simplified focusing more on the literacy and numeric skills of students.
The Minister made this statement while taking part in the evaluation event for students who received the highest marks in the 2022 O/L and 2023 Grade 5 scholarship examinations.
He went on to say that pupils must get 30% of their points from evaluations completed in class throughout the fourth and fifth grades, in addition to their Grade 5 scholarship test results. The minister made it clear that in order to do this, parents and children must have faith in their teachers.
The Minister also emphasised that school boards will monitor how students are evaluated in the classrooms. He said that up until the ninth grade, Finland too uses a classroom-based evaluation method.
At this ceremony, 20 students who obtained the highest from the 2022 O/L and 2023 scholarship examinations were given laptops and tablets sponsored by Abans.
