GraceLife Thoughts: Why We Should Share The Gospel

Even though a majority of Christians believe they should share the Gospel with others regularly, only a small minority does. Many Christians believe sharing the Gospel is optional for them. Other Christians admit to avoiding spiritual conversations because they fear their non-Christian fiends would reject them. Some Christians say they are unsure whether non-Christians even have an interest in hearing about Jesus. It’s also unfortunate that many younger Christians believe it is wrong to share Christ with people of a different faith.

Any Christian who reads the words of Jesus Christ and His apostles would know that sharing the Gospel is not optional and it’s not wrong. Jesus told His disciples to preach the Gospel to unbelievers and make disciples of all nations. Those disciples obeyed Jesus and taught their disciples to do the same. Sharing the Gospel is not optional or wrong. So, why are so many Christians unwilling or opposed to telling unsaved people about Jesus Christ and the salvation that comes only through Him?

I think part of the reason might be that Christians don’t understand the root reason for sharing the Gospel.

Here it is in one sentence:

For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15 ESV

For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15 NKJV

All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15 NIV

The meaning in 2 Corinthians 4 is clear. As generations of Christians share the Gospel, God’s grace extends (spreads) to more and more people. The result of that is that it increases thanksgiving to God’s glory.

Sharing the Gospel of Christ with unsaved people is not about us and never has been. It’s about seeing the expansion of voices praising God and thanking God to the glory of God.

That’s why Christians should share the Gospel.
