The Government has named 2024 as the year to expand the local agricultural industry.
The Ministry of Irrigation has estimated Rs. 84 billion to implement several projects. The Ministry of Irrigation, Department of Irrigation and the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority have planned to carry out the development of 18 major projects.
A discussion on these development activities to be implemented next year was held at the Mahaweli Authority recently under the patronage of Minister of Irrigation, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Pavithra Wanniarachchi. There was also a discussion about providing deeds for Mahaweli zones. It was revealed that 13,600 deeds will be given before the end of the year.
The Minister paid attention to the distribution of these deeds and instructed the relevant officials to take steps to implement this project before the end of this year.
Minister Wanniarachchi said that in a time like this, when the economic crisis in the country is being formally regulated, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has paid special attention to the development of local agriculture in the year 2024.
The Minister requested that a targeted program has been given to the Ministry of Irrigation, for which the maximum support of all officials and employees is expected.
State Minister of Irrigation Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Secretary, Ministry of Irrigation U.D.C. Jayalal, Secretary, Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation Chandra Herath and many officials from the Ministry of Irrigation, Department of Irrigation and Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority were also present.
