The central government has banned 14 mobile apps. Terrorist organizations were conspiring to spread terror in Jammu and Kashmir through these messaging apps. According to the report, terrorists were using these apps to communicate with their supporters and on-ground workers (OGW). Security agencies were monitoring these apps for a long time. Investigation found that the representatives of these apps were not in India. In such a situation, there was a problem in monitoring the activities of these apps.
Apps banned by the government included Crypviser, Enigma, Safeswiss, Wickrme, Mediafire, Briar, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO, Element, Second line, Zangi, Threema etc. According to the report, the terrorist groups were communicating and sending their messages through these apps.
Investigation agencies were keeping an eye
An official involved in the investigation says that the agencies were monitoring these apps for a long time. These agencies found that no representative of these banned apps is in India. In such a situation, the investigating agencies were facing difficulty in monitoring these apps. Even before this, the government has banned hundreds of apps in the last two years in violation of section 69A of the IT Act 2000. These apps have also been banned for violating the rules.
Violation of IT rules
According to ANI reports, security agencies say that the propaganda of terrorists was being spread in the Kashmir Valley through these apps. The existing banned apps were being operated against the IT rules of the Government of India. Last year’s IT Rules 2021 made it mandatory for social media companies to keep their dedicated representatives in India, to help users’ complaints and investigative agencies monitor it.
Many apps banned in 2023
Earlier, the Government of India has banned more than 138 apps this year, in which games like gambling and betting were played on most of the apps. Most of these apps banned in February were related to China. At the same time, the government has also taken major action on fake loan apps this year. These instant loan giving apps were also related to China. The government has listed 94 Chinese loan apps, through which users were being cheated in the name of loans.
