The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (20), informed Colombo Additional Magistrate
Rajindra Jayasuriya that the Government Analyst has expressed his objection to handing over late Janashakthi Group Director Dinesh Schaffter’s mobile phone and SIM card to his wife.
In his report the Government Analyst has stated that the data on the telephone cannot be updated and by connecting it to the internet the data therein can be erased.
The Government Analyst has stated in the report that investigations are still being carried out regarding late Dinesh Schaffter’s mobile phone and it will take another week to complete them.
The Magistrate said that since the cause of death of the deceased is not known yet, the request made by the aggrieved parties should be considered as well.
The Magistrate said that since late Dinesh Schaffter’s business information and account information are all in the relevant mobile phone, they may be making this request in order to take
some money out, which they need, also ordered that a report be submitted through the Computer Division of the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the possibility of the phone data
being saved elsewhere and the phone being given to the aggrieved party.
