Today we’re sharing with you a gorgeous wedding in Rhodes, where the bride grew up. Emma and Chris’ wedding overflows with elegance and romance. The whole color palette and decoration was inspired from the Greek island landscape, as they were based on white, grey, silver green and dusty pink hints. It was a natural, rustic wedding with the magical background of the sea, the archaeological site, the white small houses and the greenery landscape. Check out the following photos captured perfectly by Savvas Argirou Photography and feel completely transported to this historical island!

“We met at university in Oxford whilst studying Architecture. We both remember that first moment when we both met; across a studio table in our first group meeting where we were placed in the “bird” group with this being the focus of our year’s architecture work. Since that moment, birds have taken a key role in our relationship. Following this, we visited Palestine as part of our university trip, where our friendship flourished which 5 years later lead to a summer Greek wedding”, the bride shared with us.

“Chris proposed whilst on our summer holiday in Rhodes. He chose the most romantic spot on a beach in Pefkos near Lindos. He proposed during the sunset, my favorite time of the day, whilst saxophone music (my favorite instrument) , was playing in the background. He made hundreds of origami birds with romantic words written on them which he hung on a tree and placed candles around us. It all seemed unreal and you don’t remember a lot of things due to all the excitement, but the one thing I will remember forever is the moment when he kneeled down and took the ring out the box. The thought that came to my mind was “this is really happening, I am going to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams and oh my God the ring is perfect”.

“We chose Rhodes as our destination wedding as it is where I grew up. It is a place which Chris fell in love with since the first time he visited. We both wanted a summer wedding, with the sun, sunset, sea, and our family and friends as part of our big day. We couldn’t have chosen a better place.”

“As every woman does, I was planning my wedding since a little girl. When we chose a date for our wedding, I wanted to dedicate my time to it, so I moved to Greece for 9 months to start the planning and help my parents renovate the house ready for the wedding celebrations. I spent my days looking through weddings blogs (including Love4Weddings and Chic & Stylish Weddings), florists and adding inspirations to my Pinterest boards. As I have a creative background, I wanted to add small personal details to the wedding, which began by experimenting with the invitations.”

“We had a Greek Orthodox Service at St. Paul’s Church in Lindos. We both wanted a dreamy summer wedding, so we chose a Greek, rustic concept with elegant touches inspired by nature. We had many details made by us, such as the invitations that were made by me, the wedding cake by my mother, the cake topper by groom’s brother, the kids activity books by us, hand fans me etc. This made it even more special and romantic. The colors we chose were very simple and inspired from the Greek landscape. They were based on whites, grey and olive/silver greens with hints of dusty pinks.”

“As a stylist, I wanted a natural, rustic look so I chose white washed grey elements with a lot of greenery. At the church, a lemonade stand was created serving fresh homemade lemonade, water infused with cucumber, mastic in small jam jars (all made by the florist and her team) and hand fans to keep cool (knowing our luck, the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius on the day). Our florist also made a stunning flower arch around the church entrance door with large white hydrangeas and eucalyptus. Our “stefana” were made from silver and white wood whilst the wine was poured into a second hand vintage decanter sourced by us.”

“My best moments were when I was getting dressed with my friends and family at my family home. The moment when my father helped me wear my shoes, my mother buttoned my dress up, passing by my grandparents’ house to get their blessing (this was such an emotional moment), when we walked to the church with my father, mother and first cousin by my side followed by my best women, bridesmaids, flower girls and friends and family. The moment I will remember so vividly and clearly is when we walked up to the groom. I will remember looking at Chris whilst walking up to him and seeing him say “wow” before my dad handed me over.”

“For the bouquet I chose olive branches, silver eucalyptus, succulents, white David Austin roses, astilbes, veronicas and white anemones.”

“I am obsessed with wedding dresses… The problem was that I had a dress in my head that I couldn’t find in reality. I went around many bridal stores where I tried on many stunning dresses from amazing designers such as Berta, Inbal Dror, Galia Lahav, Julie Vino, Nurit Hen, some of which I absolutely fell in love with. The problem was that they were over my budget but still didn’t exactly meet what I had in my head. I hadn’t found that “perfect one”, so I thought I would design my own dress and have it made. We visited Bridal Apparel in Leeds and started designing the dress with Susan. The design included lace and beading details, open back and low-cut front, a long-laced tail and a 3/4 silk tulle overskirt which was “the cherry on the cake” as it could be removed when wanted. Susan also made a beautiful long veil for me with intricate lace around the edges.”

“The tables at the reception were decorated with white washed grey crates filled with candles and olive branches and eucalyptus. The table numbers were printed to match our wedding stationery, the logo was designed by me. The head table was decorated with olive branches and eucalyptus along with large candles. The wedding cake was a semi naked cake decorated with olive branches and figs; two of the tiers had a custard sponge filling whilst the other one was lemon sponge. This was presented on a vintage barrel (restored by the groom and best man) with olive branches. We sourced our champagne flutes, hammered silver, which matched the engraved cake slice and knife. Page boys were dressed in white shirts, grey chino shorts, grey shoes, and grey bow ties made by one of the bridesmaids, Katie Page. A sign saying “here comes the bride” was help by one of the page boys. The ushers wore grey suits to match the groom’s grey suit (his was a lighter shade) and they all wore grey ties and pocket squares made by Katie. The bridesmaids wore a dusty pink maxi multiway dress whilst holding a bouquet filled with olive branches, eucalyptus and David Austin roses. I chose simple but beautiful dresses for the flower girls who were holding their baskets filled with olive leaves, rice and rose petals.”

From the groom, Chris: “My best moments were opening the amazing gifts from my wife while getting dressed, the first moment I saw Emma in her dress, seeing the smile on Emma’s face when she was Greek dancing and dancing to our first ever firework display as man and wife.”

“A wedding can be an overwhelming time. Every bride gets so excited when planning her wedding but there is also a lot of stress involved. As I was planning a big Greek wedding there were many things that I just didn’t manage to do due to the high number of guests, around 700. As it is only one day, which goes past in a split second, I would advise any bride to just live every moment of that day. During a wedding a lot of people get involved and have a say in things. It is best to get everyone involved but also make sure the final decision is what you want. Although I am a perfectionist and pay a lot of attention to detail, I would advise not to spend all your energy on every small detail. Try to get everything sorted ahead of time and if something goes wrong on the day don’t dwell on it. Try to have the week before the wedding free to relax, spend time with your friends and family, and most of all remember, this is yours and your husband’s special day, celebrate and live every moment the way you both want.”
