Google he said Monday that he plans to invest $ 10 billion in India in the next 5-7 years as the research giant seeks to expand its presence in the key overseas market.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai today unveiled the Google Digitization Fund for India through which he will invest in the country.

"We will do this through a mix of equity investments, partnerships and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments. This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy," he told the company's annual event focused on India.

Investments will focus on four important areas for the digitization of India:

  • First, allow affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language, be it Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi or any other
  • Second, build new products and services that are profoundly relevant to India's unique needs
  • Third, empower businesses as they continue or embark on their digital transformation
  • Fourth, by leveraging technology and artificial intelligence for social good, in areas such as health, education and agriculture

India is a key overseas market for Google, where a wide range of products and services, including Search, YouTube and Android, has made its way with much of the entire online population.

Although Google, like every other American tech giant, only makes a small part of its revenue from the world's largest Internet market.
