Google has ad that it will phase out paid extensions from the Chrome Web Store over the next few months. Paid Chrome extensions will no longer be available due to the increase in cases of fraudulent transactions which have led to a Temporary suspension on paid extensions.
Earlier this year, Google announced changes to the Chrome Web Store to remove malicious extensions. As of March, developers can no longer import new paid Chrome extensions. However, this week's announcement confirms that paid Chrome extensions will never return.

What Google is basically doing is shutting down the Chrome Web Store payment system that developers use to charge for extensions and in-app purchases. So, if a developer uses Chrome Web Store payments to monetize extensions, they'll have to migrate to another payment processor, the company said.
The search giant has provided a timeline for how it will end paid Chrome Chrome extensions. Google will remove the free trial option on December 1, and payment access through the Web Store will be limited for all paid Chrome extensions on February 1, 2021.
Google also plans to deactivate its licensing API, which helps developers verify whether a user has actually paid for the subscription or not. It therefore asks developers to implement another mode of monitoring user licenses.
Most Google Chrome users don't have a paid extension so they won't mind. However, this is a big deal for developers who rely on paid extensions.
