Google’s RCS chat is rolling out to phones on Telus’ network

Google's 'Rich Communication Service' (RCS) is rolling out to Pixel phones on Telus' network today with more Android phones to follow.

RCS, which Google calls 'Chat' is the company's take on Apple's iMessage. This means that Android users on Telus, and possibly Koodo, will start to see read receipts, typing indicators, group chats and user's will send messages over Wi-Fi and data when it's available.

In the feature's latest iteration Google's labelled it as 'Chat' and you can find it in Messages' Setting's menu.

This news comes from a Reddit post from someone who claims that they work for Telus. The employee says that users should get a prompt to enable the feature when they open messages with a compatible SIM card. MobileSyrup has reached out to Telus for more information regarding the feature.

I'm on Koodo and I tested RCS on the Pixel 3 XL and I was able to enable Chat on it.
