According to the South Korean tech blog ETNews, Google has signed a contract with Samsung to develop and manufacture a chip that can be used to track body movements. The report comes when Google is certain Opposition to the takeover of fitness tracking pioneer FitBit in the EU.
Samsung is reportedly designing and building the chip, as opposed to building a custom chip based on a customer's design, as is usually the case. According to another report earlier this year, Google worked with Samsung to design custom processors for its pixel line Android phones. Google currently uses Qualcomm CPUs in its cell phones.

European regulators have said they are concerned that such a move could add too much advertising power to Google by already adding to it extensive database with private user data. For its part, Google has agreed not to use personal fitness data for ad tracking. However, it is unclear whether the chip described in the report is related to the FitBit acquisition from Google.
Google and Samsung didn't immediately respond to requests for comments.
