The big story: Google Photos will end up with free, unlimited storageGoogle is changing its storage policy for free accounts in a way that could have a big impact on anyone who regularly uses Google Photos.
Currently, Google Photos allows users to store unlimited images (and HD videos) as long as they are under 16 megapixels. Starting June 1, 2021, new photos and videos will all count towards the 15 gigabytes of free storage the company offers to anyone with a free Google account.
Google says it will take the average user three years to hit 15 gigabytes, at which point they'll have to delete some photos or pay for a Google One account. Also, on June 1st: Documents, Sheets, Presentations, Drawings, Forms and Jamboard files will also start counting towards the total storage space.
