Google is expected to fill number two spot of tablet vendor for 2013 and beyond

According to a Digitimes Research, world tablet shipments for both branded and white box models are expected to surpass notebook shipments in 2013, indicating a growth of about 38.3% from a 2012 record and coming to a hit to about 210 million units. On the other hand shipment for branded tablets are forecasted to reach 140 million units.

Google to fill number two spot

According to the research, Apple will still retain the top spot for tablet vendor but Google will be elevated to the number two spot because of the aggressive pricing of both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices. Apple’s share in the tablet market is also expected to decrease slightly to 55.6% and its total tablet shipments will drop below 40%.

The sudden surge in white box tablet shipments in 2012 indicates that Android will surpass iOS to become the biggest platform in 2012 and could continue to 2013. Projection for combined shipments of Android tablets both branded and white box such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble devices are to hit 121 million units in 2013, accounting for about 40.2% growth from the 2012 figures.

According to the research forecast for growth for 2015, growth will continue for both branded and white box tablets amounting to 300 million shipments, where branded tablets representing 200 million units and white box tablets for about 100 million.
