The story of Good Time is first and foremost that of a genesis like no other in the form of Pattinson's love at first sight for the Safdie brothers. At the beginning of 2015, a promotional photo of their film Mad Love In New York, centered on a couple of drug addicts, is enough for the British actor, amazed by the aestheticism of the duo, to fall head over heels in their universe. On the basis of a simple image, but touched in the heart, he therefore ignores any intermediary and then contacts them personally to ask them to play in their next film! "Rob said to me on the phone, 'It doesn't matter what next project you're going to do, I want to be!' He told us he would follow us wherever we take him " Josh Safdie recalls.

"I was really marked", remembers Robert Pattinson at the microphone of the Rolling Stone site. "You usually see such striking imagery in a lot of European films. But it's rare to see that coming from independent filmmakers." It must be said that the actor, famous for his role in the vampiric saga Twilight, then found himself at a turning point in his career: trying to move away from mainstream cinema, he distinguished himself in front of the cameras of David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis ) or David Michôd (The Rover).
"When I like something, I get incredibly enthusiastic"Pattinson says, still at Rolling Stone. "The first email I sent to the Safdie brothers was something like, 'I'm absolutely sure we're supposed to do something together.' They then asked me if I had seen any of their work. I told them, "No, you don't need to see your work. I know".
The three men therefore quickly met. Originally, the Safdie brothers wanted to offer Pattinson to play in Uncut Gems , which was their next project at the time (the film was finally released in January 2020 on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler). As the actor does not fit into the particular universe of this work, the filmmakers therefore began to imagine a project centered very specifically around Pattinson. Good time was born.
