Golden Globe Predictions (Film Categories)

Posted on the 11 January 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Best Motion Picture: Drama

Nominees: Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory Of Everything

Will Win: Boyhood

The Globes could go 100% unpredictable and throw support to either The Imitation Game or Selma, and help make the real Best Picture Race a little more interesting, but the safe bet is that Boyhood wins another award.

Best Motion Picture: Comedy

Nominees: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into The Woods, Pride, St Vincent

Will Win: Birdman

A possible upset from The Grand Budapest Hotel, but Pride and St Vincent have no shot at winning this. An upset could occur with Into The Woods, but I’m betting the Globes are trying to be more prestigious, and they’ll vote either Birdman or Budapest.

Best Director

Nominees: Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu (Birdman), David Fincher (Selma), Ava Duvernay (Selma), Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Wes Anderson (Grand Budapest Hotel)

Will Win: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)

This is a close race between Linklater and Innaritu. Fincher’s film wasn’t even nominated, so he’s out. Duvernay or Anderson are longshots.

Best Actress: Drama

Nominees: Jennifer Aniston (Cake), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Felicity Jones (The Theory Of Everything), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Reese Witherspoon (Wild)

Will Win: Julianne Moore (Still Alice)

A lot of people are predicting Aniston to upset at the Oscars, but the reality is that both Cake and Still Alice are so small, they’ve basically only been seen by critics and screeners. Everyone has seen Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, and Reese Witherspoon in Wild has a shot too. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moore lost this to either Pike or Witherspoon because no one has actually seen her film.

Best Actor: Drama

Nominees: Steve Carell (Foxcatcher), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), David Oyelowo (Selma)

Will Win: Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game)

Might Win: Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything)

It’s between the two brits in brit biopics, I’m afraid. Gyllenhall is lucky to be nominated. Carell and Oyelowo would both surprise me.

Best Actress: Comedy

Nominees: Amy Adams (Big Eyes), Emily Blunt (Into The Woods), Julianne Moore (Maps To The Stars), Quevenzhane Wallis (Annie), Helen Mirren (Hundred Foot Journey)

Will Win: Amy Adams (Big Eyes)

This is kind of a bizarre grouping. Wallis has no shot. I’m afraid not many people saw Maps To The Stars, as well as her film not really being a comedy. Mirren could upset, simply because she’s Helen Mirren. Most likely to beat Amy Adams is Emily Blunt.

Best Actor: Comedy

Nominees: Ralph Fiennes (Grand Budapest Hotel), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Bill Murray (St Vincent), Joaquin Phoenix (Inherent VIce), Christoph Waltz (Big Eyes)

Should Have Been Nominated: Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up) and Bill Hader (The Skeleton Twins)

Will Win: Michael Keaton (Birdman)

Possible Upset: Bill Murray (St Vincent)

Phoenix and Waltz are lucky to have been nominated. This is really between Keaton and Murray, with Fiennes as an outside shot.

Best Supporting Actress:

Nominees: Emma Stone (Birdman), Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year), Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game), Patricia Arquette (Boyhood), Meryl Streep (Into The Woods)

Will Win: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)

Might Win: Emma Stone (Birdman), Meryl Streep (Into The Woods)

Should Have Been Nominated: Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer), Carrie Coon (Gone Girl), Melissa McCarthy (St Vincent)

Best Supporting Actor:

Nominees: Robert Duvall (The Judge), Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher), Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), JK SImmons (Whiplash), Edward Norton (Birdman)

Will Win: Edward Norton (Birdman)

Might Win: Ethan Hawke (Boyhood)

Should Win: JK Simmons (Whiplash)

Should Have Been Nominated: Andy Serkis (Dawn Of The Planet of The Apes)

Best Animated Feature:

Nominees: The Lego Movie, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Big Hero 6, The Boxtrolls, Book Of Life

Will Win: The Lego Movie

Should Win: How To Train Your Dragon 2

Best Foriegn Film:

Nominees: Ida, Force Majeure, Tangerines, Leviathan, Gett

Will Win: Ida

Might Win: Force Majeure, Leviathan

Best Screenplay:

Nominees: The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl, Birdman, Boyhood, The Imitation Game

Will Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel

Might Win: The Imitation Game, Boyhood

Best Original Score:

Nominees: The Imitation Game, The Theory Of Everything, Gone Girl, Birdman, Interstellar

Will Win: The Imitation Game

Might Win: Birdman

Best Original Song:

Nominees: Big Eyes (Big Eyes), Glory (Selma), Mercy Is (Noah), Opportunity (Annie), Yellow Flicker Beat (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 1)

Will Win: Glory (Selma)

Should Have Been Nominated: Everything Is Awesome (The Lego Movie)
