Story: Golda starts as Golda Meir (Mirren) faces a hearing for her actions in the Yom Kippur War. It shows her battling her health problems and preparing her military for the battle against the Egyptians. She must make the difficult decisions to keep her country safe but at what cost?
We follow her negotiations with Henry Kissinger (Schreiber) as they try to find a cease-fire situation. However, her stubborn nature refuses to accept anything that puts her people at risk in the future.
Verdict on Golda
Recap
This movie follows the political and military decisions made by Golda Meir during a conflict in Israel. She wanted to make sure her country didn’t face the same problems as before and refused to back down when pressure was piled on her too.
Best Parts
This movie highlights the lasting effects of World War II. It shows how countries who were victims are refusing to back down in case they were to face the same outcome. This creates the ripple effects of Golda’s decisions and her determination to not let her country down. However, it also shows the consequences of small problems that escalate to create countless victims. Helen Mirren is fantastic in the leading role and dominates the screen.
Worst Parts
When we dive into the worst part, we must remember what is going on in the world right now. It doesn’t do very much to give Israel any sympathy in the conflict and shows they won’t back down to anyone, no matter how many people get killed. I do feel like this movie came and went without anyone talking about it because of that, which takes away the conversation it should present to the world.
Final Thoughts –Golda is great at showing someone with great power, making big decisions.
