Out of the total approval of INR 80,000 crore as a complete package for Kashmir from Government of India, INR 400 crore is an exclusive reserve for flood management in Kashmir. As we are aware that Kashmir is highly vulnerable towards floods during rains and there is no proper risk assessment and mitigation plan designed so far.
To increase the carrying capacity of Jhelum river, this plan is going to deliver in a big way. The purpose of this package approval is also to harness the flood spill channel.
