Story: Godless starts when Senator Angela Porra (Ortiz) is preparing to sign a new law on abortion. However, Bishop Rolland (Lennix) is leading the campaign against the bill. He has excommunicated her from the church and her numbers continue to prove the church is losing power.
When the bill gets close to signing, Angela questions her decision, as it goes against her faith. However, the more open discussion about what it means comes to light between Angela and Rolland. The two open up about what they believe to be right, despite worshiping the same God.
Verdict on Godless
Godless is a drama exploring the connection between an abortion bill and the Catholic church. It follows a Senator who is about to make her vote and the battle to remain loyal to her Catholic roots. However, it creates a moral dilemma in a divided country about what is important.
This movie explores a more in-depth series of events about a politician making a decision. It shows a personal conflict and what is important in the bigger picture. This provides more of the open discussion needed when it comes to many of the bills people want to pass. Instead of just jumping on the ‘I don’t agree’ wagon, it shows both sides need to make a decision which can be a human choice. It becomes engaging and thought provoking in how it unfolds. We get two strong performances from Ana Ortiz and Harry Lennix who bring their characters to life during their honest discussions.
