Japan Expo is in exactly 8 days and I’m totally not ready. Help?
Wooser no Sono Higurashi is a very short short that talks about the “hands to mouth” life of a mascot who is, obviously, called Wooser.
Now, I have no idea why I decided to review Wooser. I say it all the time but reviewing shorts is really difficult.
But Wooser was too good to pass up. And it has two seasons, that should show how good it is. And I know for sure I wouldn’t hate having a third season, the possibilities are quite limitless.
Actually, the whole anime is limitless. Since it has no actual premises but to show the daily life of Wooser who is everything but a normal mascot, it can get away with pretty much everything. And it’s exactly what it does.
I think Wooser touched up on all the genres or nearly you can find in anime. There is a lot of slice of life, as you would expect, but there was also a lot of mecha, which is rather strange but since Wooser is strange in the first place I guess it makes kind of sense.
I think that’s one of the thing I loved the most in Wooser, the fact that you never knew what to expect. At the beginning of an episode you could see Wooser and his owner having fun playing video games and the next thing you know Wooser is trying to take over the world.
This short doesn’t make any sense and that’s exactly what makes it great
The second thing that makes it great is Wooser himself.
As I said, Wooser is strange. Wooser has a lot of ambition for a mascot and he is also a huge pervert. The fact that he is a mascot helps greatly with that. You can’t really get mad at a simple mascot for being a pervert. The bad side is that it makes him a bit creepy, also makes you realize that, while the hero is a cute mascot, Wooser is definitely an anime for adults.
But the best thing about Wooser is that he is voiced by none other than Miyano Mamoru. Not only am I a fan of his, but I also think he is perfect for this kind of character. He can sound so serious in this strangeness that I can’t help but find him awesome. Actually, in term of voice, I think the way he voiced Wooser is very close to the way he voiced Kyouma, Steins;Gate’s mad scientist.
The other characters are sadly only accessories to Wooser and his greatness. They’re pretty bland, they barely have any distinctive features. That didn’t keep me from fangirling over dark Wooser for the very valid reasons that he was voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya. And everyone should know that he is my favorite seiyuu ever. Especially when he uses that deep voice of his.
Another thing I really like in Wooser is all the cameo of other shows. Either inside the plot itself or in the end card. You could find Miss Monochrome wandering around pretty often. In any other show, a cameo per episode would have been too much but somehow, it worked very well for Wooser. It kinda added a little more interest to the anime.
I am obviously going to recommend this, it is short, funny and cute.
