I AM ON VACATION! Now that this is said, let’s get back to business!

Writing a summary of this anime is probably useless but I will try anyway. Super Sonico the Animation, nicknamed SoniAni, is the story of a girl named Super Sonico who happens to be a gravure model, an oceanography student, a music player and who also sometimes hang out with her friends and cats and help her grandmother at her store. Basically, Super Sonico is super human and here is her story.

Obviously Super Sonico would be perfect. She’s a mascot, mascots are always perfect or else they fail as a mascot. Obviously, since she comes from the wonderful universe of eroge she has big breasts and a very recognizable character design. However, the anime SoniAni which was supposed to be awful to watch and which I have only started as a joke at the beginning, didn’t turn as obvious as it could have been.

Let’s be honest. This anime was made for fanservice. Except that, while we got some very exposed scenes of Sonico, she did spend most of her screen time fully clothed and that is something worth to note as it was everything but expected. Or at least I didn’t expect it. At all.

I didn’t expect to actually enjoy following Sonico’s daily life either. She does have a very interesting daily life but I was pretty sure at the beginning that her perfection would annoy me. Except that she isn’t perfect either. Sonico might be a super human or something (because let’s face it, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have a lot of time to sleep) but she is still human. I found that pretty cute.

The good thing about her having such a full life is that at least it was never boring. SoniAni played on so many stereotypes that in the end, it wasn’t so bad to watch, interesting even. SoniAni is an anime that manged to put in the span of 12 episodes, a few concerts, school life, a beach episode, nearly naked people and zombies. And it worked. I cannot exactly say it was the best anime of all time but it was entertaining and that’s the main thing I ask of an anime.

I said a lot on Sonico already but the main thing is that she was likeable. She’s an airhead but a smart kind of airhead and a nice kind of airhead. She was so cute that even I managed to have my heart taken away by Sonico.

I still won’t buy her figures because her character design is awful but I like her as a character.

But my favorite has to be the manager. So evil yet so cute in the way he protects Sonico. Adorable thing. I wonder what kind of face he has. Another weird character design is nothing to fear in this anime after all!

I didn’t know a lot of the seiyuu. I can’t say I liked a lot of them either. Sonico’s for example, Yamamoto Ayano, has a voice that can be a little bit hard on your nerves. The other ones are forgettable but not awful, just normal.

Though, to be honest, I mainly say that because they are girls and I remember girls less.

I had a good time with Sonico, more than I ever thought I could with this kind of anime, a recommendation for a good laugh and mindless entertainment.
