The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced that it will withdraw from the Arogya project launched by the Ministry of Health, effective today (02).
GMOA Media Spokesman Dr Chamil Wijesinghe said the decision to initiate trade union action was taken due to what the association described as the government’s failure to provide a satisfactory response to its demands.
Dr. Wijesinghe also raised concerns regarding the transparency and objectives of the Arogya project.
He said the GMOA had not been adequately informed about the nature or purpose of the project and questioned whether a feasibility study had been conducted, under whose approval it was being implemented, and who was responsible for it.
He said that, at a time when the health sector faces multiple serious issues, attention was being directed toward areas without urgent concerns, resulting in duplication of existing work.
He further said the association suspected political motives behind the initiative and alleged that, instead of addressing the issues faced by doctors and the health sector, unnecessary projects were being introduced.
Dr Wijesinghe added that the GMOA Executive Committee had decided not to participate in what it described as a politically motivated initiative about which it had not been properly informed. (Newswire)
