Gluten Free Product Review: Bella All Purpose Baking Mix

By Calvin Eaton @glutenfreechef5

Bella mix I can’t quite remember were I tastespotted Bella Gluten Free but now that I’ve tried their A+mazing gluten free baking mixes I am glad I did. Founder Mary Capone was diagnosed with celiac many years ago and went on to create a line of gluten free baking mixes long before gluten free became trendy. I reached out to Bella and they graciously sent me a box filled with their All-purpose Baking Mix and Pizza Dough Mix. Their line also includes a Multi-grain Sandwich Bread Mix and a Cinnamon Raisin Bread Mix.

As far as name brand all purpose mixes are concerned I have tried my share and even though many popular brands make claims to have a great cup for cup blend to use in place of regular flour they almost always fall short. The best blend in my opinion comes from Silvana Nardones’ Cooking for Isaiah which I’ve written about here.

I was a bit skeptical in trying Bella’s blend but decided to trust a try. We made the most yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies  as well as my Ultimate Chocolate Cake. I must say I was more than impressed with Bella’s blend. It created a great batch of chocolate chip cookies and no one in my family cared that they were gliuten free. My chocolate cake came out moist, rich, and A+mazing. In fact I cheated a bit and ate a piece for breakfast this morning. The cake is even better cold on the second day.

I tell you all of this to say that Bella’s All-purpose Baking Mix lives up to its claims of being a cup for cup substitute for regular flour. I’m not going to forgo my usual all purpose flour blend anytime soon. But on days when I am short on time and need a pre-mixed batch of gluten free flour I’ll be sure to keep my pantry stocked with Bella.

Rating 4/5

I haven’t tried the Pizza Dough mix just yet but will review as soon as I do. For more information on Bella Gluten Free as well as their online store click the logo below and check out Mary’s online video tutorial on Youtube.
