It's not all boring schoolwork nowadays. ALDI partnered with Scotbeef to teach pupils about business enterprise and how to bring a product to market. The pupils from Lochend School in Glasgow will see their successful enterprise, a Scotch burger recipe, on sale across ALDI stores in Scotland from Thursday 1st June after winning a competition.
Reiss Brady (14), Ben Palmer (13) and Samuel Lusk (13) from Lochend School created a BBQ burger recipe - nicknamed the 'Champions Burger' - as part of the programme. The winning recipe will now be produced by Scotbeef before hitting ALDI shelves across Scotland as a Specialbuy this summer.
The winning burger was chosen from a shortlist of three by Marion MacCormick, fresh meat buying director at ALDI in Scotland.
Marion MacCormick, Buying Director at ALDI in Scotland, said: "We were hugely impressed by the ideas and effort put in by all of the pupils at Lochend School, and we're sure that the winning burger is going to fly off the shelves and prove hugely popular with our customers in Scotland."
The competition was part of Scotbeef's overall initiative to encourage people into the food industry by investing in and developing people.
Alison Galloway, Head of Development Innovations at Scotbeef, said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Lochend Community High School and ALDI to develop initiatives and projects designed to inspire young people. It is imperative for the future success of our business that we continue to attract, develop and grow our people in Scotland."
