As the influence of the virtual world continues to develop and extend, fashion has been quick to adapt. In the past year alone, Burberry, Gucci, and Stella McCartney have released limited-edition virtual collections on Roblox, and the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week has been launched, virtual influencers and designers have risen in popularity, and NFTs have generated a never-ending buzz.
Givenchy, with an intriguing new collection that combines Web3 and real-life products for the first time ever, is the latest high-end brand to enter the virtual fashion arena. It’s no wonder that a luxury brand enthusiast would want their stunning IRL wardrobe to be reflected on their avatar.
For SS23, Givenchy’s creative director Matthew M. Williams partnered with Atlanta-born, New York-based underground label (b)STROY on a super-hyped, experimental streetwear capsule collection for menswear and womenswear, with key pieces also available as NFTs.
“(b).STROY captures the essence of the street, and Matthew’s work for Givenchy epitomizes urban style with Parisian flair,’ say (b).STROY co-founders Brick Owens and Dieter ‘Du’ Grams. ‘For this collaboration, we wanted to merge our respective aesthetics and create an experience that goes beyond the collection itself.”
And go way beyond the physical collection they have by working with the experimental Web3 artist collective FELT Zine to make “digital twins” for six pieces from the capsule. Imagine epic denim-covered biker boots, a patch-covered bomber jacket, and a logo t-shirt, all set against bold animations and made on Ethereum. You can buy them now, but there are only a few left. The owners of these NFTs will also have access to Givenchy’s new Web3 program before anyone else.
Those who still prefer the tangible pleasures of fashion may still acquire the Givenchy X (b). STROY capsule IRL. Thankfully, there is a far larger supply of these items, despite their continued popularity.
